11 Songs that put you in a good mood?
In recent years music therapy as an accessory medical treatment to many physiological and even a few physical ailments has shown signs of success. It is pretty much scientifically accepted that certain tunes inspire well being care of numerous studies into the subject.
The nasty side of the coin is that certain types of melody also subconsciously manipulate the listener. Retail shoppers for instance can be more open to spend. This is never more obvious that at Christmas when yuletide carols and cover versions accompany our every trip to the mall in an effort to hypnotise us shoppers into a festive move.
But I digress; this is a post about songs that we think inspire our own idiosyncratic sense of happiness and make us healthy. So a listing of the tracks from the soundtrack to “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is not what I’m looking for.
So here is a list of 11 songs that personally elevate my mood and can often combat the blues just by their presence in the background of my life. Sounds that make me feel elated, boisterous, ready to party or chilled out, relaxed and distressed after a hard days work. (In No Order)
Kinky Beats – The Entire Album
Don’t Bring me Down by Electric Light Orchestra
Four Seasons by Vivaldi
Doodlin Song by Peggy Lee
Sex Machine by James Brown
I Can Hear Music by The Beach Boys
Just Dropped In to See What Condition my Condition was In by Kenny Rogers
911 is a Joke by Public Enemy
Loves me Like a Rock by Simon and Garfunkel
Soul Sacrifice by Santana
Three is the magic Number by Bob Dorough
So what song put you in a good mood despite what may be happening in your own life?

Best I don't - too many to mention.
Agree entirely with the whole music therapy thang though - I been a long time advocate for this form of emotional well-being.
Good to see you've got a little ELO thrown in - which by the way came off the Discovery Album back in 1979. How do I know this? Glad you asked. Worked at the Golden Arches and we (like many since) substituted the words ' Don't Bring Me Down - grooossse" for "Don't Bring Me Down - Bruucce" - which just so happened to be the store's tyranical manager.
Apparently when group were performing - they oft changed the words themselves to include the Bruuuccce reference.
Nuff ramble.
Nice post.

For me it's the sound of the Harp and I have a couple nice albums - one mixed with Didgeridoo - way cool celtic beats and ground soundz.
There was acompilation album put out a few months ago called Open Space... this makes me feel pretty good, as does another ambient album called Vargo.
Sting picks me up, as does Shakira and Shane Howard (Aussie singer).
There are so many albums in my collection it would be hard ot name all the ones that lift the spirits... for me it depends on how low the mood is and where it is headed...*lol*
Nice post!
Going now to put some Spanish Flamenco on to motivate the day ...

Some time ago I burned a CD of "feel good get up and go" songs. The one song that picks me up and makes me happy has to be "Ready to fly" by Richard Marx. It reminds me that anything is possible even in my bleakest hour.

I love a good film score too, some of my favourites are by Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Danny Elfman and Elmer Bernstein.

I too find myself bopping away at the bus stop, I really groove to any Curtis Mayfield or Isaac Hayes, the Temptations Papa was A rolling Stone infects my blood with boogie!

Anyway, a lot of music picks me up. I think I generally respond well to the commercial pop-rock genres...but the song that always (and i mean 200% of the time) picks me up and makes me just wanna let go of everything is Smooth - Santana and Rob Thomas. Brings the summer vibes, the groovy vibes....as the Beach Boys said, "....giving me good vibrations".
Hmm, you mention ELO's Don't bring me down. Because I'm not too familar with songs pre-80's, I always get the intro to that song mixed up with this other song...I'm sorry if that's a crime punishable by banishment...but i swear, they're sort of similar!
