Michael Jackson duped again?

May 30th 2006 03:23

Stereogum is reporting that Michael Jackson has actually received an MTV Award and, apparently, this time it's real. Jackson has received the Legend Award during the Japanese MTV Awards. Well, if the Japanese love him then... they're the only ones that do. Jackson has been reduced to nothing more than a publicity figure who surfaces every now and then for absolutely no reason.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon Returns

It seems the Karma Police are all-knowing and have enacted swiftly - it has been a mere four days since I mentioned the horribleness of the Crazy Frog. How am I rewarded? With the news that Crazy Frog is soon releasing a second album. In all that is holy, why?

Of losses and near-misses

This Week in Music

Drowned in Sound have announced that Panic at the Disco! have lost a member of their band, so shortly after Sum 41 suffered a similar fate. This time it's their the bassist Brent, who has decided to call it quits from the band. Now who in their right mind would quit a band so close to stardom. Granted, it is fame as dished out by emotional teenagers, but still fame is fame right? The site says:

AVA no longer whispering

May 21st 2006 03:36
MP3 Alert

In what must be an unprecedented event, Angels and Airwaves have posted their entire debut album We Don't Need to Whisper on their Myspace here. Alot of people have trashed this albm as anything from boring, to too emotional, not-Blink - basically whatever people can say in order to justify the fact that there is no longer Blink 182, and their emotional angst behind the "temporary split" which, contrary to popular view, isn't the end of the world, and may actually be a good thing in the long run. While this debut album doesn't have a huge lasting effect, it remains an excellent album for what its worth and all of my readers should listen to it. You can check out my review of the album here.

Never in my life would I imagine that I would be listening to dance music. I mean it's like switching from indie music to Britney Spears, or from classical music to Ludacris. Until this day, the closest to dance music I have ever come is my periodical love for Jamiroquai, but now, I have moved one tiny step closer. And the naem of that step is Mylo.

This Week in Music

One of my favourite newspieces for this week - Muse have announced that their first single from the next album, Black Holes and Revelations, will be titled Supermassive Black Hole and will be released on June 19th, but be available for download (not sure how) a week earlier on June 12th.

The album itself is available from July 3rd. Many long-running fans of Muse were slightly disappointed from their last album, Absolution and it is true that they have departed somewhat from the style of their debut album, Showbiz.

Da Vinci Code

The BBFC (British Board of Film Classification) has asked those responsible for the upcoming film Da Vinci Code (based on the infamous but horribly-written novel by the same name) to change the film's soundtrack, as it was too scary for children. Ok, let me get this straight. They want Ron Howard, who hasn't done anything remotely kiddy since The Grinch (which in my opinion is far scarier), to change a movie about the Catholic Church and all things adult, and especially the music in it, which isn't supposed to be uplifting, to accomodate children? What are the BBFC smoking this time? I believe my points are best summarised in point form:

Dark Side of the Moon
According to Drowned in Sound, Pink Floyd's 1973 album Dark Side of the Moon has now been in the Billboard album charts for 1500 weeks. At first I thought this was consecutively, but it turns out that it has been on and off since 1988. Meaning that between 1973 and 1988, it was on the Billboard charts consecutively. How the hell does that happen? I knew Pink Floyd were popular but that popular? Oh well, congratulations on the feat.
