Is This How it Ends? Not for Starky

November 25th 2006 20:56
I've mentioned Starky before, the Sydney indie-rock quartet that supported Snow Patrol when they last came to Australia. Now, they've made a little bit of noise, this time appearing on the NME frontpage, albeit not a great feat considering some of the band's that NME place unsupported bias on, but still a sign that they're beginning to make themselves known. Here's the video for Is This How It Ends, lifted from their self-titled second album.

Mascara-laden emo-rockers 30 Seconds to Mars find themselves in a Jet Li inspired version of Medieval China in the music video for their latest single, "From Yesterday." The video itself is actually done quite well, but it is a little annoying to watch, because the song itself is broken up into three separate pieces interwoven between the underlying narrative. Then again, it is more than likely that you'll never see this edit of the video on TV, so you won't have to suffer often.

It's taken 30 Seconds to Mars two albums, but they're finally gaining some airplay. Too bad it had to take the popularity of far inferior bands like AFI and others like to project them into the limelight. The single is lifted from A Beautiful Lie, the 2005 followup to their self-titled debut. Enjoy:

iPod's little brother gets an ad

November 22nd 2006 22:50
The marketing team at Apple are well and truly sick of the whole silhuoettes thing, so they've gone with something a little fresher. With the last iPod Nano ad we see those cool trails of lights. Here, the ad plays on the portability of the iPod shuffle, and mainly the clip feature that it has. The bottom line: this ad is quite cool.

U2 Rock Telstra Stadium

U2 Telstra Stadium

It was early December in 2005, and Australians everywhere geared up to purchase tickets to what would be sell-out concert in record time. U2 was coming to Australia for the first time in eight years. Then, weeks before the concert was due to begin, U2 cancelled, citing a death in the family of one of the members, pushing the concert back eight months to November of 2006.

The best song from Rapture's new album now has a video to suit. "Woohoo! Alright - Yeah... Uhuh!" is the second single to be released from Pieces of the People We Love. The song is extremely catchy and 80s by itself, but the video adds a whole new dimension to its campiness, with the addition of rooftop parties complete with breakdancing the likes we haven't seen since Run DMC's "It's Like That." In any case, here's the video:

Tom Delonge lashes against Blink 182

November 1st 2006 21:52
Everyone remembers Blink 182 - that pop-punk trio that made waves with hits like "All the Small Things" and "Feeling You." The time of Blink 182 was the time of innocence, the time of chasing girls, and the time when you could act like the teenagers you were appealing to. That, according to ex-frontman Tom Delonge, is all "bullsh*t."

Since the breakup of Blink 182 - which according to ex-members Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, Delonge was apparently responsible for - the members have gone their separate ways. Barker had a minor fling with "The Transplants" before forming "Plus 44" with Hoppus, which are about to release their new album. Former punk rocker Delonge on the other hand, has gone on to form a U2-influenced rock supergroup, "Angels and Airwaves." Everyone who has been following the continuing melodrama that is the breakup of Blink would know that over the past year or so, Tom Delonge has become somewhat egocentric.
