Songs that need to be played loud
The recent Australian tragedy where a gun toting music lover shot and killed his neighbour for complaining about the loud tunes had me wondering who is in the wrong? Granted, blowing a father of four away is far too extreme a penalty but don’t we all agree there are certain songs that command us to pump the decibels through the roof.
I’m talking a limited selection of rowdy, thumpin’ rhythms that should be permitted by law to give the DJ the power to use the maximum wattage available. Obviously there would also have to be stringent penalties for breaking the decibel barrier with inappropriate material.
Which brings me to my list, or should I say lists. Two of them, first the “Yays” that inspire, astound, assault and unleash every pore in the essence of your being.
12 songs that SHOULD be allowed to blast windows and tear paint! (In No Order)
Carmina Burana
Beastie Boys - Sabotage
Pink Floyd – anything on Dark Side of the Moon
The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for The Devil
AC/DC – Jail Break
Ravel’s Bolero
Jimmy Hendrix – Voodoo Child
Public Enemy – Bring the Noise
Rage Against the Machine – Anything on Evil Empire
Nine Inch Nails - Closer
Led Zepplin – Anything on Zepplin 1 & 2
White Stripes – Ball and Biscuit
Now for the “Nays”, songs so painful to endure at any output level that hearing them could easily be compared to a psychological war of attrition.
9 appalling noisemakers that are a blights on the industry, extreme examples of punishable sounds.…(Disclaimer - It’s easier to blanket statement what you hate.)
Bagpipes – Unless it is in AC/DC song
Celine Dion
Madonna
Justin Timberlake
Robbie Williams
John Farnham
Kylie Minogue
The Spice Girls
Oprah – Just to cover all bets because sooner or later she will want a singing career as well.
So where do you draw the line with the volume dial/button? Should certain songs have veto rights or is this the dumbest idea you’ve ever read?
