Another FOX?

I must turn all readers' attention to a previous post about the US TV show, Love Monkey, which can be found here. And now to update on this entry: Rumour is that CBS has decided to shelve the series after a measely four episodes, apparently due to poor critics' ratings. Since when did any channel listen to ratings from critics? Nevertheless, this seems to be the gritty truth - Tom Cavanagh and the rest of the crew have been put on hold until further notice.
For those who haven't seen the show at all (which I'm assuming is pretty much all of you), it is essentially about a representative from an indie label, his personal and private life. Something I hadn't noticed before, and which you'll realise upon watching a few episodes is that it is basically promotion of the artist within the show, "Wayne." While I thought he was simply an actor, it turns out that he is in fact a real artist, by the name of Teddy Geiger.
His debut album, "Underage Thinking," is a pop record, combining mellow piano, acoustic guitar and a full band. The album is charming, with tracks like "For You I Will" and "Love is a Marathon" definitely growing on me after a few listens both within the show and from the album. While the show, "Love Monkey," does not focus entirely on Wayne, it does seem like a good and effective marketing trick to sell Teddy Geiger's album. Interesting is the fact that Teddy Geiger is signed to Columbia Records, one of the biggest labels there. Since "Love Monkey" paints an indie label as good, and major labels (characterised by Monster Records - go figure) as evil, is this Columbia Records' attempt to paint themselves as good and gain a foothold within the music industry?
Whether or not is not the major issue to me. The problem i have is the fact that CBS is cancelling the show without giving it a chance whatsoever. What does this remind of? FOX's tendency to cancel shows without prior warning or logical reason - Arrested Development, Family Guy, Futurama... need I say more? FOX has done it more times that anyone can count, and the fact that CBS has done it now projects the feeling that CBS is turning into another FOX. Sure, Love Monkey wasn't the best show out there, but it at least deserved a chance on network television. Even if to introduce listener's to differen kinds of music.
I think a public forum is most appropriate for this entry, so what do you think about this action? What about the use of network television to promote an individual artist or a record label?
