Bloc Party Cancel US Tour (Updated)
November 13th 2006 22:26
There was a little confusion when it was announced that Bloc Party would be supporting Panic! at the Disco
Fan site Blog Party have news that Tong injured himself before their set at the Hifi Buys Ampitheatre in Atlanta on the 10th of November. The injury resulted in Tong having a collapsed, but he managed to play through the set, and was only taken to the hospital after the gig.
A press release from the band states that "while Matt is on the road to recovery doctors have advised that he not travel or play again for another few weeks in order to give his lung time to properly heal." As a result, the entire US leg of their tour has been cancelled, with no news about whether their UK leg will suffer the same fate.
"We would like to apologise to all of our fans here who won't be able to see us on this tour," vocalist Kele Okereke said. Considering that the the tour is in such close vicinity to the release of their second album, A Weekend in the City, the cancellation of the tour is a potential blow to their publicity for the album.
The band's UK tour begins at the end of January in 2007, with their anticipated second album to hit store shelves on February 5th 2007 in the UK, and February 6th in the US.
UPDATE: As of last night, A Weekend in the City was leaked onto the Internet by an unknown source. The leak comes a full four months before the official release of the album, and while it appears that all the tracks are properly recorded and in order, it is probable that full mastering and mixing has not yet been completed. Nevertheless, this turn of events has caused many in the Bittorrent and other such p2p communities to gain access to the album.
