Bloc Party's Second Revealed

September 18th 2006 12:53
Many fans of Bloc Party would already know that close to three weeks ago, Kele Okereke revealed on the XFM radio station in London that Bloc Party's followup to "Silent Alarm" would be titled "A Weekend in the City." Barely has that news gotten out the door that more has managed to cram its way in - the coverart for the new album has mysteriously appeared on the album's dedicated wiki. Here is the cover in all its glory:

Bloc Party - A Weekend in the Sea

Beautiful, no? Of course, Bloc Party is well versed in good coverart - their debut album, "Silent Alarm," had a brilliant and malleable cover of its own accord. The second album's tentative release date is set for February 2007, with titles like Waiting For The 7.18, Uniform, Perfect Teens, England and Song For Clay.

Silent Alarm is so good. I don't know about waiting 5 or 6 months though! Jeez

Its only been a year and a half since Silent Alarm was first released, so two years is not too terrible in terms of album release. From what I've heard so far, the new album is panning out to be another classic, and I can't wait.

I wonder, will we get a heap of remixes along with it, a la Silent Alarm Remixed?

Only time will tell. Still, there seems to be the trend at the moment of people remixing indie songs - they did a similar thing with Wolfmother - we'll just have to say. However, I'd prefer it if actual indie artists did the remixes rather than DJs and whatnot - the best tracks off "Silent Alarm Remixed" were those who actually knew the style and knew what to do with it - artists like Four Tet, M83, Death from Above 1979, Ladytron and especially Mogwai. They were truly brilliant tracks.
