Bob Dylan attempts to block movie
January 3rd 2007 02:05
Bob Dylan seems to be the person of the moment. There are currently at least two films being made involving Bob Dylan either as a major character, and Dylan himself is trying to stop one of them. The he isn't trying to stop is probably the more interesting of the two, a biopic in which Bob Dylan is represented at different stages in his life and career, at each step played by different actors, from Christian Bale to Cate Blanchett. I'm Not There is slated for a 2007 release.
The one he is trying to stop has a slightly different take on the musician. Factory Girl, to be released this year, portrays the life of Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol's superstar of the 60s. Sedgwick, played by Sienna Miller, is portrayed as a superstar who loses grip on reality as a result of her life with Warhol, played by Guy Pearce, a life which eventually leads to her suicide. According to Dylan, who is portrayed in the film by Hayden Christensen, the film insinuates that he was involved in her suicide by overdose.
Bob Dylan has stated that he doesn't wish the film to be released until the truth of the matter is settled. Dylan's lawyer has claimed that the original script draft name Bob Dylan, however, subsequent changes have seen a change in the name from Dylan to Danny or Billy Quinn, changing based on the source given. So far, no reconciliation has been made between Dylan and the film's producers, however the film's US release has been postponed due to dissapointed test audiences.
