“A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom.” – Bob Dylan
Endlessly applauded and influential, few artists have had such a vast effect on the musical landscape as one Robert Allen Zimmerman aka Bob Dylan.
A prolific songwriter with a prodigious output, Dylan managed to inject a sincerity of emotion and awareness of the culture outsider that still communicates to the disenfranchised and alienated generations later.
A genius at blending lyric and melody, his political, socially relevant philosophies have been translated by other artists since the beginning, to the point where his work is often more easily recognized to the public ear when covered.
Criticized for his mumbling, some said rambling vocal styles Dylan’s stage persona has remained in constant flux. Determined to avoid the stagnation or being defined by one sound he was embraced by the Blues, folk and country scene early on.
Enraging disciples by going electric at a time when his acoustic sensibilities had already set him atop his contemporaries a telling rendition of “Its all over now baby Blue” announcing in no uncertain terms the end of an era.
“I consider myself a poet first and a musician second. I live like a poet and I'll die like a poet.” – Bob Dylan
Temperamental, stubborn and abrasive traits that have traveled like a “Rolling Stone”, he has mellowed considerably over the years but still maintains a level of devotion to the craft that is elite. In the 1970’s his output was staggering and often misinterpreted as lacking quality.
Over the decades his contributions have received countless industry accolades and the man himself has continued touring. Praised and respected, he has performed alongside the biggest names in the industry, having a profound effect on those who appreciate his unwavering devotion to his art.
Touring Australia this August the legendary icon will be performing a selection of his most famous tunes. Continuing his journey of self expression to include newer songs that strive for an authentic voice, hoping to open minds and hearts to the plight of the world through his eyes.
“At times in my life the only place I have been happy is when I am on stage.” – Bob Dylan
