David Gray sold out Madison Square Garden

David Peter Gray was born in Sale, England in 1968 and is one of those artists that if you don’t know the name you will definitely know the songs. Shine, Babylon, Other Side, Sail Away, This Years Love, Caroline all David Gray’s and the list goes on and on. It all started when David moved from Manchester to Wales where he was raised in a small coastal town, Solva in Pembroke Shire. Later young David moved to the North-West of England to study at the University of Liverpool.

Now we have taken care of the intro we can get on to the music. David Grays first two album were, in 1993, 'A Century Ends' and in 1994 'Flesh', although popularity came from the two albums only in the folk rock community. Not quit hitting commercial success.

The big change in his music came from his third album, 'Sell, Sell, Sell', released in 1996. Which unlike his first two CD’s which were all folksy guitar songs this was more like the David we know, with the definite composite of folk alternative and synthesized electronics. Still not making it on the charts but putting him self out there as a very unique sounding artist not just in music terms but with that fiercely smooth but rusky voice of his.

David Gray Shine!!!!

Theirs no doubting David’s voice demands attention especially when he is singing one of his spine tingling ballad’s like Babylon and This Years Love, off his forth and most renowned album 'White Ladder'. The breakthrough album was released in 1998 and slowly injected him into mainstream pop.

In 2001 he finally made into the top of the UK album charts after the single release off Babylon. Just to prove the in pact, it is still to date the biggest selling album ever in Ireland.

2001 also saw the release of his early work and up to this point unreleased material, such as 'EP’s 1992' and 94 and 'the lost songs of 95 and 98'. Keeping with the slight electronic sound that was working so well for him and although the album "A New Day at Midnight" did go to number one instantly it didn’t quit hit the hype of White Ladder. You wouldn’t of known it because of the fact that it was the second biggest seller of the year(2002). Songs like Other Side which could be one of my most loved just feel like you could be sitting back watching the curtains blow on a Sunday afternoon and marvel at this mans great song writing skill. "Be Mine" and "Other Side" where both top 30 UK hits of the album.

David Gray trifector

After three years of a full calendar David must have been drained but somehow he pushed out his seventh album 'Life In Slow Motion' in Sep of 2005. After the hard knock that a New Day At Midnight had I was happy to see that "Life in Slow Motion" was being called David’s return to form it also hit top of the UK charts in the first week no less. The lead single The One I Love had a very nice top ten statues on the UK charts in October 2005, and stayed there for three moths, to bad for David his second and third singles, Hospital Food and Alibi where deemed as commercial failures.

After the failed singles of 2005 nothing happened with David till the computation 'Shine The Best Of Early Years' released in 2006 and although not deemed a all over commercial success. H his skill as a musician way over comes the slight pop chart failures and you can see the skill of this man on his greatest hits including the lead single "You’re the world to Me", released On November 13 2007.
