Goldfrapp announce a remix album
August 2nd 2006 04:24
Indietronic outfit Goldfrapp have announced that they are set to release a remix followup to 2005's "Supernature," in a similar style to Bloc Party's "Silent Alarm Remixed." The album will consist mainly of remixes of songs from the 2005 album, with the exception of Strict Machine, which is taken from their 2003 album, "Black Cherry."
Like Bloc Party, Goldfrapp have chosen, for the most part, to allow actual musicians to create the remixes, rather than simply picking DJs, well-known or not. This seems like a good move, since musicians tend to have a greater grasp on the potential directions in which a song can move, rather than simply putting a beat behind. Bloc Party already proved this works, with Ladytron, Death from Above 1979, M83, Mogwai, and Four Tet all creating outstanding reworks of the "Silent Alarm" songs - have you seriously heard a better remix than M83's Pioneers? One would hope a similar outcome could be achieved with this album, though as yet the album is set to be a US-only release, with the Flaming Lip's Satin Chic set to become the first single.
