"Jackpot: The Best Bette" - New Bette Midler Compilation Album - April 29 2008
March 13th 2008 05:40
Hello Music Lovers
Hello, I'm Michael Holloway, a South Australian postgraduate student writing a thesis about inspirational women in music, and the general theme of music as a magical power. Once I'm finished, I'm eager to find a career in music reviewing and writing articles about music for newspapers/magazines/online publications.
A while back, I was excited at the news that there might be a new Bette Midler album being released on April 29 2008. The title is Jackpot: The Best Bette. Then I wondered if this really was a new album or another "best of" package. Bette has been contracted to a two year run at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas for a ninety minute show practically every night of the week, so when exactly would she have time to record a new album?
After some online investigations, however, as I had suspected, it is yet another compilation. Although I love Bette, as a longtime fan, I REALLY wanted new Bette songs. Still, the cover art is visually stunning and shows Bette at her most Divine. There is one previously unreleased song, Something Your Heart Has Been Telling Me, but personally, I wasn't sure whether I really needed the CD for one song. Still, as a devout Bettehead (a name given to her most ardent fans), I know I just have to have it.
Admittedly, this compilation will be great for the novice Bette fan who is just learning about The Divine...
I do LOVE the cover photo nonetheless:

Longtime fans may be disappointed with yet another compilation, however comprehensive, but for the novice Bette fan, this collection of songs will be ideal!

I know it seems kind of odd to buy a compilation album when you have all the songs, but there is one song on there I don't have "Something Your Heart Has Been Telling Me".
I don't really get along well with iPods, mp3's and many of these techno-devices, or at least my computer doesn't get along with multimedia. There's that and I just have a preference for actual CDs rather than downloads, and I do love the cover photo I showed in the above post.
I've done that a few times, bought a compilation album if there are bonus songs on there, but if a compilation album has no new or previously unreleased songs, then I don't generally bother with those.
Cheers, Michael
