John Mayer blog

30 year old John Mayer was infected with the music bug from the early age of 13
After watching Marty Mcfly’s guitar solo from Back to the Future. The love was sealed by his dad renting a guitar and his neighbour giving him a Stevie Ray Vaughan tape.
After living and breathing the blues for two years Mayer began playing at blues bars and any other venues he could book. Along with that he also played with a band called (Villanova Junction with Tim Procaccini, and Rich Wolf) yeah I know a catchy title isn’t it?
After being enrolled at Berklee College of music for only two semesters he decided to up and move to Atlanta Georgia to play music with his friend Clay Cook. In a very short wile there band LoFi Masters began playing at local bars clubs and making quite a name for there two man band.
After the brake up john mater realest an EP Inside Wonts Out. With the minor success he was pushed on to the music scene and started his climb to the top. His first big major gig was the south by southwest music festival. This gave Mayer a rolling start and it well and truly rolled. The release of his internet only CD Room For Squares, scored him major radio time with among other things Your Body Is A Wonderland. He got a Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the same song.
Any given Thursday and heavier things were his next CD’s. Although most reviews were good there was some debate if he was a real musician or a paper thin pop star. In 2005 John won the song of the year award beating Alicia Keys and Kanye West. He also won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, beating Elvis Costello, Prince, and Seal. Not a bad feat and the best was yet to come. At the 37th Annual song writer’s hall of fame Induction Ceremony in 2006, Mayer was honoured with the Hal David Starlight Award.
In 2005 Mayer was thinking of changing his soft sensitive acoustic style for his first musical love the blues. Collaborating with legendary bluesman like, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy and even B.B King. I guess hanging around legends worked good for him because his latest album Continuum, released September, 12, 2006 was a nice change from his acoustic stuff. Songs like Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, Gravity and Stop This Train. All great songs and all are defiantly in my top songs of 06.
If Mayer keeps on this blues/pop track I for one can’t wait for his next record. And with guitar skills like his I can’t help but think he will be one of the new age guitar legends.
