Insert Title Here
Bloc Partay

Sorry dudes and dudettes, but I've been busy building a career this week (among other things) so this post will be brief. Todays' post is about none other than the greatest band in all of history - and I mean THE GREATEST. So who? BLOC PARTY.

Silent Alarm
Yes, you've all heard of them - that British indie rock quartet featuring the cool African dude, the funky bassist, the nerdy lead guitarist and that drummer who joined out of nowhere. Their debut album, "Silent Alarm," came out last year and has been steadily gaining steam over the year, gaining popularity in all nations of the globe with hits such as "Banquet" and "This Modern Love." Of course, the singles are in no way good representatives of the rest of the album, with the songs "Like Eating Glass" and "Pioneers" being the most underrated and yet my favourite songs on the album. They bring to the indie rock scene a fresh scene, a fresh voice and a combination of many different styles that mix perfectly.

Of course, after thrashing the album thousands of times (literally - check my Last.Fm Profile), I feel it is time that Bloc Party comes out with a second album, and they are indeed hot on the trail of their previous success with a follow up album due to be released within the next few months. The biggest fans of the band have been desperate for any and all news about the album, from rips of the song from their live gigs, to ideas about the title of the album.

Of late, rumour was it that the album would be called "Urbanite Relexation," but lead singer Kele Okereke (I know, what a cool name) has cleared this up, saying that this was simply one theme of the album, and not the title. Kele has revealed a little information about what the album would be like:

"On first thoughts, this album is going to be angry, not angry in a "fuck you, I won't tidy my bedroom!" Linkin Park way, more silent rage, like what is left when frustration boils over. Lyrically a lot of the abstraction has gone, the ideas are clearer and braver."

The lyrics thing is certainly good, because songs from "Silent Alarm" such as "Plans" seem to have absolutely no meaning, definitely taking away from the song slightly. He's also very certain on what the album isn't:

"It's not a dance punk record, that shit has been done to death. Dance punk will not be a noose around our necks."

Ok not really sure about what he means like this, since "Silent Alarm" isn't exactly dance punk. The first thing that comes to mind when I hear dance punk is "Panic! At the Disco" but I think Kele is referring to some of the drum beats and different musical techniques used in some of the demos I've heard from live gigs - not exactly total dance, but there are indeed some dance beats, which add atmosphere to an extent.

"In the last year I've been reacquainting myself with early Roxy Music, Queen, 80's period Bowie, Missy Elliot, DJ Shadow, Dizzee Rascal, Philip Glass, and Austrian composer Ligeti. Last year I was given a choral score by Penderecki and I have not been able to stop listening to it. So I guess between those artists and composers, here is what we are aiming for with this new record."

That statement is a little worrying considering the inclusion of Missy Elliot, though I suppose that if they use the craziness of her songs for good instead of evil, then something good can come out of it. Nevertheless, nothing can draw away from the fact that I'm absolutely excited about this new album. The demo songs sound promising, and the new album, whatever its name, is sure to be a hit. Expect a review of the album here as soon as I get a copy.

Wow this has turned out to be my longest post ever. Have a good one.
