Lemon Demon is the brilliant Internet-based band fronted by Neil Cicierega, known for his Flash animations, called 'Animutation'. He's unbearably young (I think he's just turned 18) and unmistakably talented.
I first heard of Lemon Demon when this video spread virally over the internet:
While most people just thought the animation was funny, I loved the music, even though it was rough and raw. Neil isn't a professional singer, the tracks aren't mastered very well, but still, there's an element of short-circuited car battery excitement to the music that leaves you clutching at the remains of your kidneys.
The next video I saw by Lemon Demon was Word Disassociation, a terrific song, with hard-as-hell lyrics:
Great piano opening and fun video.
Lemon Demon have a massive fan base that's spread out all across the internet, attracting more attention as the band does increasingly well.
Them crazy fans call themselves the Illemonati, and they've got a fancy wiki to go along with Lemon Demon.
. On the wiki, you can find lyrics, sample music and random trivia...
Some of the more inspired fans make their own fan videos to the songs... one of my favourite Lemon Demon songs, Marketland, was used for a video by Chad Johnson. It's very amateurish and low-budget, but highlights the funky hot medina that the Internet can bring us:
