Yet another week of Midnight Rage proves that the music industry isn't totally doomed. Three of the better videos from the night...

Jarvis Cocker - C*nts are still running the world
I'm not too sure whether this is really a single or not, since Cocker's appearance at the beginning of the clip suggests this was shown at a music festival. Still, it appeared on Midnight Rage, so I'm guessing it now is. From Cocker's debut solo album, Jarvis, the song is not a track of its own right on the album, but actually a hidden track. Still, Cocker's most political song is also one of the most representative of his earlier days in Pulp, gloriously 80s and entirely cynical.

Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats
Actually, the Gonzalez song that featured on Midnight Rage was "Hand On Your Heart" but "Heartbeats" is much better, both the song and video - plus I couldn't find the video for "Hand On Your Heart." The extremely mellow cover of The Knife's "Heartbeats" is accompanied by an extremely colourful clip, mainly for use in a Sony ad, but pure genius nevertheless. His voice can be a little annoying at times, but otherwise he is finally getting some attention after releasing his debut album, Veneer three years ago.

Beck - Nausea
I tried, but I still can't love Beck's new album, The Information. The only thing that caused me to put this song in the list was the true campiness of the video clip for "Nausea" but unfortunately I couldn't find that clip either. The alternative is a little cliched, but good enough.

New Killers Video,

October 25th 2006 22:59
MTV today premiered the video for the second single to be lifted off the Killers' new album, Sam's Town. The single, "Bones," is taken very literally in the video, though so was "When You Were Young." The choice of this song for a single is very questionable - it is probably the biggest evidence supporting the claim that the Killers have simply copied Bruce Springsteen. With a wierd "come with me" catchphrase intro, a campy synthesiser riff and a brass foundation, it's a little too Springsteen to be truly likeable by those who don't already have an affiliation with the Boss. Il film:

Midnight Rage, so good for so many reasons. New music videos, crazy music videos and of course the only videoplay that skip-hop (Australian hip hop) artists will get. The other night's Midnight Rage hosted a range of artists from Plus 44's first single to a new effort from Tenacious D. Here's a selection of the best, brought to you by YouTube and the letter H:

Dizzy Banana makes the boys spin

October 21st 2006 00:26
Today I received one of the wierdest emails I have ever gotten. The email simply said this:

Underground Tokyo band Dizzy Banana have sparked a worldwide dance craze with their single, “Spin Spin Spin”. Since its release, thousands of young men have been doing “The spin”, leaving them staggering around and falling over in public. See the new clip at:

The Ricky Gervais Theorem

October 12th 2006 00:19
The Simpsons have, of late, relied merely on cameos from noticeable musicians and artists to gain credibiility. These cameos are usually pretty ordinary. Ricky Gervais has a different idea - get famous people in to make fun of themselves and actually contribute to the plotline. This is the premise of his relatively new series, The Extras, which is into its second season now. While the first season was coloured with artists the likes of Samuel L Jackson and Ben Stiller, the second lends some more space to musicians the likes of David Bowie and Chris Martin. I prefer the Bowie cameo, but the Chris Martin one isn't too bad either.

New Tim Finn Material

September 20th 2006 00:42
Tim Finn
It seems that Tim Finn is back to his old ways, in every sense of the word. He has just released a new single, entitled Couldn't Be Done, which, musically, seems a little similar to his older hits like Six Months in a Leaky Boat. Even the music video borrows the same nautical theme as the music video for the previous hit, with a little more of a Wiggles feel to it. Scratch that - much more of a Wiggles feel.

For those who don't know Tim Finn, he's none other than the brother of Neil Finn, the New Zealand frontman of Crowded House, which Australians have no hesitancy to call their own. Before Crowded House of course Neil and Tim were together in a separate musical project known as Split Enz, who had successes with tracks like I See Red and the aforementioned Six Months in a Leaky Boat. Interestingly, Split Enz reformed earlier this year for a tour around Australia and New Zealand, with rumour floating around that this was the beginning of the band's total reformation, though with Tim Finn so eager to release new solo material, this seems a little unlikely.

Second Basement Jaxx Single

September 11th 2006 12:27
It seems that the duo are churning out more singles than anyone can count - the second single to be lifted from "Crazy Itch Radio" is entitled Take Me Back to Your House, and not is the song better than Hush Boy, the video is better too.

New Basement Jaxx Single

September 5th 2006 21:58
Here's the video for the first single to be lifted off Basement Jaxx's new album, "Crazy Itch Radio." The single is called Hush Boy and, while I have heard the album, I'm told that the new single is not representative of the rest of the album. Nevertheless, it's an interesting song.

Cassius go Toop Toop

August 30th 2006 01:21
Here is the music clip of Toop Toop from French house/electronica duo Cassius. My current obsession, the duo are often unpredictable, this particular song being one of the most different from the rest of their repertoire. But the song is excellent and the video is... very French.
