October 2006 in Music

October 12th 2006 21:42

I've just realised that, despite my efforts, I neglected to post the October 2006 album release lineup at the beginning of the month, so unfortunately now it has to come during the middle again. For more information on the albums, hover over the title, and click on them to listen. Alot has already come out, it seems:

Senses Fail - Still Searching
DESA - Arriving Alive
Rod Stewart - "Still The Same...Great Rock Classics Of Our Time"
The Blood Brothers - Young Machetes

The first half of the month hasn't had much in the way of decent music - the Killers new effort is actually good, but Jet's and Evanescence's respective second cracks are pretty atrocious. Cobra Starship - those guys that did the Snakes on a Plane theme song - have their debut out, and I haven't heard it yet, but I don't have high hopes. As for the rest of the month...

16th October
Badly Drawn Boy - Born in the U.K.
Cradle of Filth - Thornography
Fishbone - Still Stuck In Your Throat

31st October

Birdman & Lil'Wayne - Like Father, Like Son
Dead Poetic - Vices
Kellie Pickler - Small Town Girl
The Residents - Tweedles
Raven Symone - From Then Until

Doesn't seem like the rest of the month is any better. Diddy, Jojo, Cradle of Filth... no thanks. Surprises were definitely Europe's new album, the Savage Garden album (no sign of a reunion, and I can't find any info on this), and Macy Gray returning to the scene with raspiness galore - maybe she gave up on acting?

A warning for Sting fans - the new album is not his usual stuff, not that he has ever been usual. But the new album is not his own original material, but rather his renditions of 17th century lute music composed by Elizabethan lutist John Dowland. While Sting's excellent vocals are ever-present and he even tries his hand at playing the lute, it's a little too wierd, and there are only some moments of enjoyment. Basically, imagine the Christmas carol "God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen" - now imagine that being performed in one of the countless Queen Elizabeth movies. That is, essentially, the Sting album. Some may even like it, but I can guarantee the majority won't.
