Of losses and near-misses

May 25th 2006 03:11
This Week in Music

Drowned in Sound have announced that Panic at the Disco! have lost a member of their band, so shortly after Sum 41 suffered a similar fate. This time it's their the bassist Brent, who has decided to call it quits from the band. Now who in their right mind would quit a band so close to stardom. Granted, it is fame as dished out by emotional teenagers, but still fame is fame right? The site says:

"There really isn’t a good way to say this, and it was a decision that was very tough to make, but feels like it will be the right decision for everyone. We regret to inform you that Brent is no longer a part of Panic at the Disco, and although this choice does feel very healthy, he is a great friend of ours and he will definitely be missed. We all wish him well and the best of luck in everything he wants to do in the future. The last few years will be something we will never forget, all the places we’ve been that we never thought we’d go and things we’ve seen that we thought we’d never see when we started this band. Right now our friend jon is going to be filling in, and I’m sure it would ease his nerves a bit to get a warm reception. We’re at home preparing for the summer tour, and we’ve never worked so hard on putting something together. I can’t tell you how excited we are for these shows and for you all to see what we’ve been planning, we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves…just you wait."

In similar-but-not-really news, Arctic Monkeys' bassist Andy Nicholson is exhausted from their constant touring and has decided to have a rest instead of travelling with the rest of the band to America on the next leg of their tour. Maybe he was hurt by the recent comment from Razorlight, or then again maybe it simply just go to him. Everyone else seems to be making fun of it, but heck, try being in a band that has shot to fame so damn quickly and keeping up with a hectic touring schedule? Gives me a little solice in the fact that I didn't get any tickets for their Australian tour.

And in a week full of losses and near-misses, it appears that lead-singer of the Kaiser Chiefs, Ricky Wilson, has been hit by a car, resulting in broken toe and bruising despite one of the worst car accidents I've heard. Their official site describes the event:

"We felt we should post something here about an accident that happened on Sunday night in Leeds to quash any rumours. Ricky was hit by a car whilst walking across a pedestrian crossing in Leeds town centre mid evening on Sunday. He's the luckiest man alive, because he is still alive - it sounds daft, but a 'Ricky trademark jump' has probably saved his life. The jump meant he was flipped over the top of the car, hitting the windscreen, rather than getting trapped under it. He was crossing on a green pedestrian light. Whether it was a joyrider, wreckless driving or drunk driving we still don't know. Police are investigating - we'd like to thank the witnesses that have come forward so far."

Is this week cursed or something?
