Probably the best ever...

And thus, with the quote from Napoleon Dynamite, goes my integrity. However, the quote is necessary to introduce my quick note for all those willing and courageous enough to explore music, both Sydney, and the world around us.
The first is the Commmercially ruined and yet universally popular MySpace (www.myspace.com), the blogging site to end all blogging sites. While I'm sure those that put me in charge of this blog are cringing right now at the thought of m advertising a rival blog site, I turn your attention to it not for the sake of gaining popularity for myself, since I don't actually have an account with MySpace. Rather, I refer you to MySpace (aka Rupert Murdoch's attempt to monopolise the Internet) in order to open you to the repository for every single individual musician/group band ever in existence from newly formed and unknown Tigercity to The Ramesses II Quartet (ok that last one was a lie, but don't rule it out just yet...). Ever heard of a band on the radio and never been able to find any of their songs? I guarantee you, not only will MySpace contain the information you desire, but it will allow you the chance to (legally) listen to full songs by them. This is indeed God's gift to the world, depsite the fact that it is in fact run and owned wholly by the devil (aka Murdoch).
The second, Last.fm (www.last.fm - formerly Audioscrobbler) allows you not only into bands around the world, but gives you entrance into the minds, hearts and indeed souls of thousands of people around the globe. Using various plugins, last.fm will take the songs you listen to on your computer (and of late, your iPod) and submit them to your user, for all to see and admire (or possibly laugh at). Since words can't do it justice, I will simply direct you to my personal last.fm account, http://www.last.fm/user/jhutchinson/.
Finally, but rather the opposite of least, we have dearly beloved Pandora (www.pandora.com), the largest repository of music anywhere in the world... and its all online and availale for you to here. Simply put in your favourite band and, based on previously submitted analysis and stylings summary of that band, Pandora will magically compile for your listening pleasure a virtual radio station of songs from your favourite band accompanied by songs from bands that match a similar stylings. The best thing about it is, not only is it possibly the foremost tool for discovering new bands, but it escapes the unfortunate problem posed by the word "genre," replacing the diluted words with a comprehensive analysis of the particular band's music.
I know this blog wasn't necessarily on target with my proposed outline, but I feel I must spread the word for all to here and rejoice.
Peace out.
