Questlove and Al Green
January 14th 2008 07:48
From Vegan Fish Tacos, comes news that Questlove has produced a new Al Green track, which is available as a download on the original post.
Sure, Al Green had his day back in the 70s, but the brother still packs a punch on my personal track listing. Back when I did a little DJing for cash, I played for a dance organized by a mysterious cult that kept talking about my energy flow. While they were eating, I played an entire Al Green album on low volume and I think the message of the Lord probably drove them a little batty.
A little known fact about Al Green - according to Wikipedia, a jilted lover threw a pot of boiling grits on him. Ay..... Mr. Green, that's neither Love nor Happiness.
Still, the incident drove him to become a pastor, which led to a rush of religiously themed songs. Song that I couldn't really identify with, but they still had that great soul sound with his perfectly matched voice. Here's to you, Mr. Green.
