Sum 41 lose a soul

That's right. Those aging punk-rockers have lost a member of their band, namely the lead guitarist, Dave Baksh. The band's official website have the following statement from lead singer Deryck Whibley:
"Yes the rumours are true. Dave has left the band. He was sick of this whole life and would have more fun playing in his own classic metal band. There's no hard feelings what so ever. The fact is Dave lost interest a long time ago."
Bit of an unsettling thing considering the entire premise of their last release, Chuck was based on passion and the dissapointment in the human race for their apathy towards the poor and oppressed. The fact that the guitarist may have had no passion sort of retracts from the entire message of the album.
Baksh has reportedly gone on to build up his classical metal band, Brown Brigade, a disturbing name for a band that I can't imagine will ever receive the attention and popularity that Sum 41 ever did. But it is certainly unsettling for the band, since the loss of any of the members could mean the eventual demise of the band itself. Their music had changed drastically, from the rap-punk debut to the metal attempt in Chuck, yet they retained a certain aspect that made them Sum 41, and immediate fears are that they might break up because of it. Nevertheless, the band are quick to alay fears, with a new report:
"The four of us as Sum 41 have had an amazing time traveling the world with Dave, living the dream we all had growing up in Ajax. Dave Brownsound's decision to leave the band saddens us as friends, but we understand and support his decision to pursue a new musical path. We wish him the best of luck. We want to let our fans know that we're busy in pre-production for our next studio album and have never been more excited about the music we're creating."
Maybe Dave's departure isn't such a big deal as I first thought...
