The Day Music Died
May 26th 2006 03:58
Some would argue that music has been dead since the 70s. But I put it to you, ladies and gentlemen, that music died with the uploading of two videos on the ever-growing YouTube. The first derives from William Shatner's new film, Free Enterprise and features Shatner rapping about Shakespeare's Caesar. RAPPING. AND SEEMINGLY PROUD OF IT. Check it out and laugh with all that can be laughed.
I'm pretty sure William Shatner takes the cake on the death of music, but this would have to follow pretty closely behind. Let me just say three words:
JODIE
FOSTER
DOING
(adding a fourth... sorry Scrubs reference had to be done)
EMINEM
You heard right. The video, below, involves Jodie Foster quoting Eminem's Lose Yourself at the graduation ceremony at Penn University. Is it just me, or is this extremely sad?
Oh well, make up your own minds I guess but, in my mind, music is well and truly dead.

Free Enterprise came out in 1998.
Maybe I'm too generous, but I try to believe that Shatner is self-aware. Because if so, he is definitely funny and possibly brilliant.
