MP3 Alert
I thought I'd notify everyone of my recent discovery, the experimental indie band Tunng. They are the wierdest of wierd and tend to be even a little too far for my tastes, but one song has caught my eye, the acoustic cover of the Bloc Party song, The Pioneers. This song just happened to be my favourite track on Bloc Party's debut album Silent Alarm, and when I heard this cover, I was jumping over the moon.
The acoustic guitar riff is beautiful and well-crafted, and during the second verse, is accompanied by a subtle and yet extremely effective drum machine beat. The addition of female voice is surprisingly pulled off well, something rarely done in indie music, and as the song progresses into the bridge and last verse, the guitar slowly moves into a reggae beat, making it upbeat for such a slow song. The only qualm I have with this cover is the chorus - they seem to do this thing with their purposefully screwing it up for some effect that is apparently lost on me. The singing goes way out of time and its like the harmonies and melodic singers don't know what the each other is singing.
Nevertheless, the song is well worth a listen and is consequently my first MP3 Alert. Of course, in the sake of not being sued by the RIAA for some unjustified stupid reason, this MP3 is courtesy of Tunng's Myspace Profile, which can be found here. My US readers may recognise that this song was actually in the last O.C. episode to air there, something which I am ashamed of knowing, but since they didn't use the song to its full potential I'm glad to know that the song is much better than was clued to in the episode.
Let me know what you think of the song in the comments.
