The White Stripes
Loud and obnoxious the Detroit rock duo of Jack and Meg White, known as the White Stripes amplify raw, thumping instrumentals with economic lyrics. Their sound is a witches brew of classic country, blues and rock.
Claiming to be brother and sister it turns out that Jack and Meg were infact once married. Hitting the music scene in 1997 with their first live shows, their self titled debut Album was released 2 years later.
Their second effort De Stijil (a Dutch artistic flavour that defined their image) was released in 2000 and was recorded in 8 track analog. It wasn’t until 2001 that they finally garnered critical and public attention with the studio work on White Blood Cells.
The single “Fell In Love With a Girl” became the now famous lego themed music video Directed by Michael Gondry.
It was in 2003 that the band hit new commercial heights with the best selling, grammy awarded album Elephant. Including the singles “Seven Nation Army”, “I just don’t know what to do with myself”, “The Hardest Button to Button” and the effortless cool of “Ball and a Biscuit”.
Around this time Jack was voted 17th in Rolling Stone magazines “100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time” and him and Meg appeared in Jim Jaramusch’s film Coffee and Cigarette’s. They also released the concert film, Under Blackpool Lights.
2005 saw the arrival of Get Behind Me Satan and further praise was heaped on the band, the singles “Blue Orchid”, “My Doorbell” and “The Denial Twist” all becoming hits.
Touring endlessly since day one, in 2006 Jack also joined another band called The Raconteurs. Several EP’s were also released by the White Stripes over the years the most recent consisting of avante-garde orchesteral compositions.
Their next Album titled Icky Thump is due for release on June 2007 and promises more high quality, minimally produced guitar licks and incisive observations about love, relationships and morality.

Hi Charliesgirl,
I love "I don't know what to do with myself" alot too. Happy to encourage further saturation of white stripes noise.
