Why do people choose to download Music without paying?
Criminal file sharing is at a terminal velocity because the internet operates largely on an “honours system” that is left to personal discretion of hedonistic consumers. The music industry is now left in a tenuous position. The easy access to illegal torrent sites makes the latest hits and back catalogue readily available to anyone with a computer. This forces the executives to implement security and enforce newly written laws but also remain competitive with marketing that doesn’t alienate customers and maximises the digital age.
An article in the London Free Press today has an intriguing piece about the top 5 reasons why people download music illegally.
#5 - “I can’t afford it”
#4 – “Everyone does it”
#3 – “The Music is Lousy”

Personally I do not advocate the behaviour of stealing intellectual property nor any other type of virtual real estate, but the subject is always ripe for discussion. In the spirit of honesty, it would be a fib to say that my scruples have always won against the temptation when a prize of irresistible melodic desire is offered.
So how about all you music fanatics out there? Are there times your jonesing for a fix so bad and just haven’t got the money to pay the pusher for your drug vibe of choice? Maybe you let society dictate your conscience, or you refuse to yield to corporate greed in a creative industry. Could you possibly be clean and uncorrupted, still shining like a gold record untouched by this cyber crime wave.
I welcome your input on this pivotal topic.

Besides, the artists gets like 5% or something paltry like that when you buy their CD from a CD store. Cut out all the crap, download the music so all the middle-men can't piggyback off someone else's success, and then support the band by going to see them play live.

I totally agree Andy 2, Luke and Cib, With the "See them live in concert" theory. As the industry and technology evolve so too does the methods of distribution.
Luke,
Good point with the small revenue that the actual band receives for sales.
Cib,
It would be nice to not have crap cd's pushed on the public that make people like Britney and Justin Timberlake fortunes.
Thanks for visiting
